On Friday, multiple sources confirmed that Newton High School has parted ways with head football coach Chris Jaax after six seasons at the helm.
Players were informed in a meeting on Thursday afternoon. The school had no comment on the matter, instead directing all questions to USD 373 superintendent Fred Van Ranken.
Jaax posted a 14-40 record in his time leading the Railers.
“I am thankful and honored by the opportunity to have been the head football coach at Newton High School,” Jaax told Mark Schnabel of The Kansan. “I am thankful to the school and the community for all their support. But I am especially grateful to the players and their families; it has been an honor being part of your lives.”
“It was not my decision to leave the team,” Jaax added. “We’ve battled together over the last six years and I had looked forward to seeing what the future held for this team.”
