On Oct. 6, the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League master schedule was finalized for the 2022 and 2023 football seasons. Here’s a first look at Newton’s schedule for the upcoming campaign next fall:
2022 regular season
Week 1 (Sep. 2) — vs. Valley Center
Location: Fischer Field Stadium (Newton)
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.
Notes: Hall of Fame Night
Separated by just a short 20-minute drive, Newton and Valley Center will rekindle their natural geographic rivalry with a season-opening duel at Fischer Field Stadium. They must’ve seen my Twitter rants…
Week 2 (Sep. 9) — vs. Hutchinson
Location: Fischer Field Stadium (Newton)
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.
Notes: Little Railer Cheer/Middle School Band Night
For the second straight season, Hutchinson will travel to Newton for an AVCTL Div. 1 showdown. This game will serve as the first in league play for the Railers, who last beat the Salthawks in 2019.
Week 3 (Sep. 16) — at Maize
Location: K.T. Woodman Stadium (Maize)
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.
Notes: None.
Keeping in perfect historical home-and-home scheduling with Maize, Newton will open its road slate by traveling south for a matchup with the Eagles — who the Railers are winless against over the past decade.
Week 4 (Sep. 23) — at Maize South
Location: Maize South Sports Complex (Wichita)
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.
Notes: None.
Newton will mark the halfway point of its 2022 season on a road date with Maize South, as the Railers will travel to Maverick Stadium for the second straight year. They’ll look to break a two-game losing skid to the Mavericks.
Week 5 (Sep. 30) — vs. Arkansas City
Location: Fischer Field Stadium (Newton)
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.
Notes: Homecoming
ROAD TRIP… for Arkansas City. Just over two hours separate Newton and the Bulldogs, which will square off on the gridiron for the first time since 2017, when the Railers won in a 42-34 shootout.
Week 6 (Oct. 7) — vs. Salina South
Location: Fischer Field Stadium (Newton)
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.
Notes: Senior Night
For senior night, Newton will welcome Salina South back to Fischer Field Stadium for the second straight season. The Railers have won back-to-back meetings against the Cougars, and will look to make it three in a row.
Week 7 (Oct. 14) — at Haysville Campus
Location: Campus Colt Stadium (Wichita)
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.
Notes: None.
Newton is a perfect 3-0 against Haysville Campus at Campus Colt Stadium. It’ll look to improve on that undefeated record when it squares off with the Colts as the lead-up to its final regular season game against Derby.
Week 8 (Oct. 21) — at Derby
Location: Derby Panther Stadium (Derby)
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.
Notes: None.
Playing at Derby’s beautiful, newly-renovated stadium never fails to create a fun atmosphere, and Newton will get to do it once again for the second straight year to cap off its 2022 campaign. It’s a good test ahead of playoffs.
